Dear Anonymous Commenter:
Do not read my post about my first experience eating Salvadorean food at Koreatown's Atlacatl and then leave me a comment that simply says:
"How did you get the impression that 'yuca' is a tuber? It definitely is not..."
By doing a little internet research in the form of articles such as this and this, I came to the conclusion that the yuca is indeed a tuber. But if you disagree, then please, do not just do a drive-by and then run off. At least tell me what it fucking is.

The tuba is the largest of the low-brass instruments and is one of the most recent additions to the modern symphony orchestra, first appearing in the mid-19th century, when it largely replaced the ophicleide.

While I certainly don't approve of the manners of your anonymous commenter, s/he is in fact correct: the Yuca (or Cassava) is a tuberous root, which is similar to - but not quite the same as - a tuber.
In short, a tuber is a thickened and enlarged rhizome used as a storage organ.
Rhizomes are modified stems that (usually) grow underground.
Potatoes are the most common edible tubers.
Tuberous roots, on the other hand, are superficially similar to tubers, but they are modified lateral roots, not stems.
Yuca and Sweet Potato are examples of tuberous roots.
Many people confuse the two (though I'm a bit surprised to see Melissa's Produce among them), and the distinction is probably irrelevant to the consumer, but, nevertheless, it isn't really a tuber.
